Free goods and services can lead to big sales for a brand when added or combined to another commodity and sold as one. Amazon uses this marketing strategy as it entices customers to order just one more DVD, or 5 more pairs of socks, or additional exercise equipment by offering free shipping if the total payment meets the target amount. More sales of items mean more profit.
